DESCRIPTION:We started this meeting with a question about Fan Coil Heating installations. This sparked off many comments and suggestions leading to an interesting 15 minutes or so. \nNext we watched and discussed 2 videos.\n \nThe first one dissects COP28.  \nThe INSANE numbers of a global climate conference! 17/12/23 \nIn the second video we had a critical look at Carbon Capture and Storage\, the technology so advocated during COP28.\nIs it the Fata Morgana of the fossil fuel industry? \nCarbon Capture and Storage. Inconvenient new data. 14/1/24 \nBoth videos led to a lively exchange.

DESCRIPTION:Climate change will have significant impacts on natural and human systems.  As well as rising temperatures\, in the future we expect to see changes to the hydrological cycle that will contribute to these impacts. \nIn this talk Dr. Stephen Blenkinsop\, Senior Lecturer and Principal Research Associate in Climate and Climate Change for the School of Engineering at Newcastle University\, examined how we derive projections of future climate. We then explored what the state-of-the-art science tells us about the extent to which climate change is responsible for recent UK extreme weather and how rainfall may change in the UK in the future. DESCRIPTION:No questions were submitted for the group so we moved straight on to the videos for this meeting.\nGeothermal energy has the potential to provide all our human energy requirements for millions of years. The trouble is (or was) we just can’t easily get at it other than in areas of volcanic activity or along fault lines in the earth’s tectonic plates. So geothermal energy has always remained a niche energy source – accounting for just 1% of global energy.
