Hydroelectric, Tidal and Wave Power

by Ian Hawker (East Suffolk u3a). Hydroelectric, tidal, and wave power are all forms of renewable energy that harness the power of moving water to generate electricity. Hydroelectric systems extract the kinetic energy of water flowing downhill (rivers and waterfalls), tidal power is generated from the to-and-fro movement of the tides, and wave power is generated from the up-and-down movement of ocean waves. However, whereas about 6% of global energy generation is hydroelectric, the combined total of tidal and wave power is less than 1%. What is the reason for this disparity, and how can it be addressed?
