Fusion Explained for Non Specialists

25 November, 2024 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Speaker: Yukata Kamada
Deputy Director General of ITER
(International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor)

ITER is a monumental scientific and engineering challenge. Its construction has been delayed multiple times due to the complexity of the project, logistical issues, and funding challenges. However, despite these setbacks, it remains a cornerstone of international efforts to develop fusion energy.
It is one of the world’s largest and most ambitious energy projects, aiming to demonstrate the feasibility of nuclear fusion as a large-scale and carbon-free source of energy. Fusion, the process that powers the sun and stars, involves fusing light atomic nuclei (like hydrogen) to form heavier nuclei (like helium), releasing vast amounts of energy in the process.
Come and learn about the equipment, the processes, the successes and setbacks that creating commercially viable technology entails.
