Secrets of the Human Brain

Some years ago, the celebrated American physicist and science writer Michio Kaku famously remarked that “The human brain has 100 billion neurons, each connected to 10,000 other neurons… sitting on your shoulders is the most complicated object in the known universe.”  Well, in this interactive talk, retired university lecturer and researcher Dr Bob Pullen (Prudhoe & District u3a) will share with us some of the most interesting, and often amazing facts about the brain, and how it works.  But that’s not all – he’ll also get us, the audience, to test how left or right-handed we are, and he’ll show us how our brains can sometimes be fooled into seeing things that aren’t actually there.  He’ll even explain how men’s and women’s brains really are different (as if we didn’t suspect that already)!
