Whatever Happened to Influenza?

As this year’s seasonal flu vaccination campaign gets under way, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about.  After all, the dire warnings of rampant winter flu outbreaks issued at this time last year, and the year before, never actually materialised.  Could it be that our fixation on the Covid pandemic actually did us a favour?  Former clinical virologist Dr Jane Sellwood, of Reading u3a, will explain why influenza continues to surprise us, and still remains a significant public health challenge.
