First Stars and Early Epoch Black Holes

Speaker: Dr. Emma Chapman
University of Nottingham; Royal Society Fellow
The James Webb Space Telescope has opened an unexpected window on the young Universe — and Doctor Emma Chapman is one of the scientists helping us understand what we are seeing. Among JWST’s most intriguing discoveries are the mysterious “little red dots”: extraordinarily distant objects that may harbour rapidly growing black holes. They seem to have appeared astonishingly early in cosmic history, raising difficult questions about how black holes could have grown so quickly. Join Dr. Chapman at 3pm on Monday 26 October for a fascinating look at these discoveries and what they may mean for our picture of the Universe.
